The trend is pointing upwards: In the fifth pre-season match, BVB women's football team celebrated its fourth victory. In the test against Sportfreunde Siegen II on Saturday, BVB easily kept the upper hand winning 3-0.

The special thing about this victory: Coach Thomas Sulewski travelled to Siegen with only eleven players due to injuries, holidays and weddings, so he was not able to bring in new players after half-time in numerous positions, as he had done recently. "We made the best of it. It was a good run out for the eleven players in terms of fitness, everyone enjoyed 90 minutes of real playing time. That wasn't so bad and I was able to learn important lessons from it," the coach summed up after the 3-0 win against opponents, who, just like BVB, also take their place in the Kreisliga.

The fact that things didn't go particularly well, at least in the first half, was of course due to the fact that some players were used in positions that were completely foreign to them. "A good experiment," Sulewski concluded positively. In fact, the first 45 minutes were not very attractive. BVB made numerous mistakes, simple balls were lost, their opponents were given too much space and instead of playing down the flanks, players kept trying to find their way through the middle, where they got stuck time and time again.

Chances for BVB in the first half? Zero. The fact that the hosts from Siegen did not take a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute was only thanks to a great save by goalkeeper Sandra Schröer, who skilfully defused a one-on-one situation.

After the break and the appropriate team talk from coach Thomas Sulewski in the dressing room, BVB found their way much better into the game. "I told the girls that we had to play more simply and, of course, come down the flanks. And they implemented it well," said the coach. The goal was not long in coming: In the 62nd minute, Luisa Bergmann, after a beautiful one-two with Hannah Goosmann, skilfully shot the ball into the far corner to make it 1-0. Eight minutes later, BVB could celebrate again: Ana Zabell directed the ball from the centre to Ann-Katrin Lau, who excelled taking the ball down brilliantly and then prevailed in a direct duel with the Siegen goalkeeper to make it 2-0.

Lau was then able to celebrate her goal-scoring exploits once again on Saturday. Five minutes before the final whistle, she volleyed the ball into the Siegen goal after an assist from Virginia Glänzer. "The first half was not what I had imagined. But after the break, we moved the ball much better. You can see that the team is making progress on all levels," said Thomas Sulewski, pleased with the performance of his team, which will play its last pre-season preparation match next Saturday at Adler Osterfeld in Oberhausen. The season opener will then follow on 12 September against BV Brambauer at the Rote Erde Stadium.
