A successful dress rehearsal: BVB women win in Osterfeld

Around a week before the start of the league, the BVB women won their last friendly match against Kreisliga side SV Adler Osterfeld 3-1 (2-0). A deserved victory against a strong opponent: after all, the Osterfeld are leading their Kreisliga division after two matches, having scored 21 goals and kept two clean sheets.

In terms of the personnel situation, things are looking a little more relaxed. "At least we can name five players on the bench," said BVB coach Thomas Sulewski before the start of the game. In the first few minutes, the home team appeared superior, but chances remained at a premium. Afterwards, the Black and Yellows pulled themselves together and started to play their own game. Osterfeld had the first chance, but BVB goalkeeper Sandra König was on hand to deny them, saving a shot from 12 yards out.

After a good quarter of an hour came the first Dortmund shot: Vanessa Heim moved into the penalty area, but her attempt was not a threat to Adler's goal. Then, after half an hour, there were big cheers from the crowd: after a perfect ball from Carolin Marie Kaul through the Osterfeld defence, Heim was through on goal. With a perfectly placed shot into the right-hand corner, she put BVB ahead. The goal let the away side breathe a little more easily, and now the Black and Yellows were moving the ball better. Just before half-time, they got what their play deserved: Hannah Goosmann slotted home to make it 2-0 before the teams headed into the dressing rooms.

Osterfeld were noticeably dissatisfied. At the start of the second half, the top of the table side tried to get back into the game – but it was Dortmund who scored the next goal: Goosmann moved into the penalty area, leaving the opposing players standing in her wake. She played a pass across the goal so all Heim had to do was tap the ball over the line to make it 3-0. The lively Goosmann could have rewarded herself again a few minutes later, but she was denied by the SV goalkeeper in the one-on-one. Although the BVB women could have added more goals, the hosts once again tried to take control of the game after an hour. Thanks to the brilliant Dortmund goalkeeper König, BVB initially managed to keep their clean sheet intact. Yet just a few minutes before the final whistle, Osterfeld managed to pull one back to make it 1-3. Shortly afterwards, the final whistle was blown to ensure an almost perfect dress rehearsal for the BVB women.

"I am completely satisfied with the result. Of course, I would have preferred to keep a clean sheet, but that was a really good performance," Sulewski said. "Now we are looking forward to the start of the league on Sunday," added the BVB coach with a view to the first BVB women's league game in the club's 111-year history. The BVB women will play BV Brambauer at the Rote Erde. Kick-off is at 15:00 CET.
